Abhainn Shira path
Abhainn Shira path

This path, on an ordnance survey, theoretically goes all the way to Glen Etive, via River Shira, Loch Dochart, and many probably non-existent bridges. Most only take it a very small way before climbing mountains on the right. This scene is possibly pleasing for "evolutionary" reasons; we are in a shaded area, surrounded by foilage and trees, looking out on a wild, barren, cold, windswept plain, looking for predators (and pray). Colin Prior has a panoramic image taken here at dawn in one of his books. There are trees in the distance that one just "knows" are very old, are there of their own strange accord, were not put there by man.

Location: River Shira.
